Friction Springs(Ring Springs)- Absorb large energy with a small size

The shape of a ring spring may be confusing. The “friction spring”, which is a minor spring among all the different types out there, is one in which an inner ring and an outer ring that each have a conical surface are stacked alternately, and a large amount of energy can be absorbed by the frictional force acting on the conical surface. Friction springs are also used for damping applications that utilize this frictional hysteresis.

    Description

A Spring Brought to Life with the Skills of Our Craftsmen

For designing friction spring, the calculation formulas published in textbooks cannot be applied as they are in many cases and experience is required.
We have a track record and expertise related to friction springs that have been built over many years. We not only manufacture friction springs, but we also accept designs according to your request!

Key Points on Our Devotion friction Springs

A large friction spring may see operating loads exceed 100 tons. We confirm and guarantee the friction spring’s specifications with a load tester of up to 300 tons.

We support design and production even for small lots of one or two springs

In the spring industry, our “complete custom-made production & high-mix, low-volume manufacturing” is an extremely unique production system which has not changed since our founding.

We guarantee to deliver the quantity you need, when you need it, at high quality.

We support all kinds of environments with the likes of heat resistance, corrosion resistance, and durability
Springs are very sensitive to high and low temperatures and corrosive atmospheres such as rust. SMS Spring conducts daily verification tests to properly maintain the performance of our springs in any environment such as at temperatures of 100°C or higher, -20°C or lower, as well as for applications in which our springs are exposed to seawater or industrial water!

    Considerations

❑ The inclination angle of the contact surface can be up to 12° in calculation, but it should be noted that depending on the surface finish, the rings may often get caught and not return to their original height. The friction angle changes depending on the surface finish and the lubrication method, and therefore it must be decided in consideration of the manufacturing finish. As a guideline, it is recommended that the plate thickness be 16% to 20% of the outer diameter of the outer ring. In addition, it is said that the gap between the rings when no load is applied should be about 25% of the plate thickness.
